چکیده

Controlling the shape of interfacial boundary is an important technological task. The effect rotation velocity modulation on interface between light viscous and denser low viscosity fluid in a rotating horizontal cylinder studied experimentally. Liquids are characterized by high contrast viscosities, these glycerin low-viscosity (denser) fluorinert FC-40. Glycerin stained with rhodamine, which makes it possible to study photo registration accuracy when illuminating liquids green laser, causes rhodamine fluorescence. Experiments carried out centrifuged state gravity field has no while varying speed, as well amplitude frequency librations. It found that librations qualitatively change near ends cavity without affecting cylindrical middle part. shown this due different "viscous" interactions oscillating cavity, result performs radial oscillations librations, latter leads averaged displacement wetting ends, increases amplitude. At certain amplitudes, contact line reaches outer cavity. dynamic equilibrium densities determined interaction ends.

Qualitative Analysis of Coating Flows on a Rotating Horizontal Cylinder

We consider a nonlinear 4th-order degenerate parabolic partial differential equation that arises in modelling the dynamics of an incompressible thin liquid film on the outer surface of a rotating horizontal cylinder in the presence of gravity. The parameters involved determine a rich variety of qualitatively different flows. We obtain sufficient conditions for finite speed of support propagatio...

Axial instability of a free-surface front in a partially filled horizontal rotating cylinder

We investigate the axial instability of the free-surface front of a viscous fluid in a horizontal cylinder rotating about its longitudinal axis. A simplified model equation for the evolution of the free surface is derived and includes the effects of gravity, capillarity, inertia, and viscosity. This equation is solved numerically to determine the base state with no axial variation, and a numeri...

Non-newtonian Behavior of a Rotating-cylinder Induced Flow

As a cylinder spins in an infinite media, viscous shear forces induce fluid motion and circular streamlines are generated. For Newtonian fluids, a simple analytical solution is possible and widely known. The hydrodynamics of nonNewtonian fluids, however, can be quite complex under such conditions. This paper investigates the behavior of a wide range of non-Newtonian fluids in the infinite cylin...

Segregation of Suspended Particles in a Rotating Fluid-filled Horizontal Cylinder – Experiment and Theory

An extensive experimental investigation into the segregation phenomenon of suspended particles in a rotating fluid-filled horizontal cylinder is presented as well as a theoretical approach to the underlying physics, based on the assumptions of small Ekman and Rossby numbers. The theoretical predictions agree well with experimental findings. The influence of non-linearity and viscosity on the ph...
